Language and Representation- Doctor Who : blog tasks

Language and contexts 1) Write a summary of the notes from our in-class analysis of the episode.  Camerawork and sound sets the genre of sci-fi by using sound affects and adds an emotional value by adding close up scenes of misunderstanding or making the doctor seem evil where as the m ise-en-scene (CLAMPS) shows that its set in the 1960s by the way they are dressed and their hair and makeup, the setting adds to the sci fi theme by the tardis being bigger on the inside.   1) Write a definition of a passive audience:  Passive Audiences refer to  those people who watch and observe the media information without making sense . Hence, they are recognised as inactive receivers. 2)  Write a definition of an active audience:  An active audience  engages, interprets and responds to a media text in different ways and is capable of challenging the ideas encoded in it . 3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory:  The hypodermic needle model (known as the hypodermic-syringe model, transmission-belt model, or magic bullet theory) is  a model of communication suggesting that an intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver . 4) Write a definition of the two-step flow theory: The Two Step Flow Theory  suggests that opinion leaders pay close attention to the mass media and pass on their interpretation of media messages to others .

1) Who do you think are the main characters in His Dark Materials? Why? i think that the main character in his dark  materials  is Lyra because the story revolves around her, she   is known to the witches as "Eve, the mother of all",  who will eventually "bring about the end of destiny", witch means that she has power/ authority 2) What narratives (storylines) are introduced in this trailer? the storyline of two young people coming from another world is introduces and then you can tell later on that they are hiding / trying  to  find   something  out 3) What settings appear in the trailer? Describe as many as you can. There is a scene  of a museum , the woods, a church, streets, a lab, a cell 4)  What genre (or genres) are suggested by this His Dark Materials trailer?  The main genre is TV drama but a sub genre could be fantasy because of the other worldy themes 5) Who do you think the target audience for His Dark Materials is?
